SIMRS Laboratory Module: Orders, Results, and Verification
The Laboratory module connects doctor requests for examinations with their execution and results, then returns those results to the patient’s medical record. The flow is designed so orders are not lost on paper, results do not wait too long, and values that need immediate attention are not missed. The laboratory works as part of the clinical flow.
Exam orders from the clinical flow
Doctors create laboratory exam orders directly from the clinical flow. No separate forms or retyping by staff. Structured orders carry the information the lab needs: examination type, patient, and the related visit, making coordination between doctors, nurses, and the supporting unit clearer and traceable.
Normal and abnormal result entry
Lab staff enter examination results into the system, whether normal or abnormal. Results are recorded against the same examination as their order, so a patient’s test history can be compared from one visit to the next. Standard exam codes keep results structured and consistent across facilities.
Results integrated into the medical record
After verification, laboratory results appear directly in the patient’s medical record. Doctors do not have to request results again or wait for manual delivery. Finished results are readable in the same visit context as diagnoses and procedures. This connection is also the basis for the critical values flow, where results needing immediate action can be highlighted so the clinical team does not miss them.
Exam costs included in patient billing
Laboratory examination costs can be added to the patient’s bill automatically when the order is created or when results are completed, according to facility policy. This keeps cashiers and front office staff from recording supporting-service costs twice, and revenue reports reflect the services actually delivered.
Who uses this module
Doctors create orders and read results; nurses help coordinate sample collection and results; laboratory analysts enter and verify results; and cashiers see supporting-service costs on patient bills. Role-based access ensures result entry is only done by authorized staff.
One data set, one flow
The laboratory shares data with other modules in both directions. On the way in, orders are created from the clinical flow so doctors do not rewrite requests; on the way out, verified results are immediately available in the medical record and exam costs can enter the invoice. Lab staff work on the same order list doctors see, so exam status (pending, in progress, completed) can be answered quickly without searching through paper.
Getting started with this module
The module can start from the facility’s core needs first, then grow in phases. In line with HealthCore’s implementation principles. In the early phase, the facility team prepares the exam catalog and result entry patterns, defines the verification flow, then trains laboratory analysts and doctors on that flow. Role-based training, go-live support, and data migration are quoted separately from subscription pricing, so the facility starts from the highest-impact flow without changing every process at once.
